Who we are

Scoops is a community events discovery app for Hawaii. It is operated by Kaike Mattos ("we", "us"), based in Waimea, Hawaii. You can contact us through the in-app messages tab or by emailing kaikeamattos@gmail.com.

What we collect

When you use Scoops, we collect the following:

  • Account info: email address, password (hashed), display name, optional bio, city, and avatar.
  • Phone number (optional): if you choose to add one for account recovery or duplicate detection.
  • Location: your device's GPS coordinates if you grant permission, used to show events near you and reverse-geocode to a city name. We do not track your location continuously.
  • Events you post: titles, descriptions, photos, dates, and location coordinates for your events.
  • Activity: which events you RSVP to, save, or report; reminders you set; messages you send to admin.
  • Photo content: images you upload for events, pet listings, or your avatar are scanned for inappropriate content (using on-device machine learning) before being saved.
  • Device info: browser type, OS version, and basic technical info needed to deliver the app.

What we do with it

  • Show you events near your location.
  • Display your posted events to other users.
  • Send you reminders for events you opted into.
  • Detect and prevent abuse (spam accounts, harmful content).
  • Respond to your support requests.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for targeted ads.

Who we share with

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

  • Supabase (database + auth + file storage) — receives your account info, posts, photos, and activity to store securely. Their privacy policy.
  • Vercel (web hosting) — receives basic technical info (IP, browser) to serve the app. Their privacy policy.
  • Nominatim / OpenStreetMap (address autocomplete) — receives the address text you type to return suggestions. No personal info attached.
  • Google (optional OAuth sign-in) — only if you choose "Sign in with Google". Their privacy policy.

We may disclose information if required by law (subpoena, court order) or to protect against fraud, abuse, or threats to user safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete account), we permanently remove your profile, RSVPs, bookmarks, reminders, reports, and inbox within 30 days.

Events you posted may stay live so attendees who RSVP'd aren't left without information. They will no longer be linked to a creator.

Your rights

You can at any time:

  • Access your data — visible in your profile and event history.
  • Update your profile, photos, or interests.
  • Delete your account permanently from Profile → Delete account.
  • Withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings.

For California (CCPA) and EU (GDPR) residents: you have additional rights to data portability and to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children

Scoops is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will be announced in-app.
